I Am Queen of This Castle

Well. Maybe the surfers are. No, wait--the fisherman. Nope. The pelicans. Uh...never mind.

Post Labor Day Farewell to Summer, Seaweed, Sandcastles etc.

I will concede that summer is officially over now that Labor Day has come and gone. But not really. Not here in Margaritaville. Nonetheless, I will share with you a brief compendium of summer treasures.

Local sandcastle architecture here is most unassuming--usually a mound with a seagull or pelican feather stuck in the top.

Now, back to work, everyone. 

Oh, and I think the sea things, a.k.a. my mermaid dolls might be macrocystis with the leaves stripped off. I'm from Iowa, folks. If you would like to correct my research, feel free. Honest to god, I wish someone had made science interesting when I was a kid.

Wonders and Abominations

Just in case you're wondering where to hire a band of pirates, I happen to know.

Now we need some knights for the beach jousting tournament.

Perhaps they can ride pelicans instead of horses.

The folks who left this behind at their last beach gathering aren't invited. The bottles and cans were left scattered across the sand--not tucked into this box.

Perhaps the same crowd left this memento. The photo doesn't quite capture the strategically placed shoe-print.

I always hope that monsters find a more civilized self buried inside. And that reminds me. Want a great beach read? Try this.
