Brown Pelican. 4:00 this afternoon, swooping low over the water just over my patio fence.
And this evening, two more sitting like sentries along the canal.
Pardon the awful photograph. Those white blobs are the pelican's heads.
Know what? Pelicans are one of my favorites too - so comical, and not always so very nice. We don't get pelicans in Jersey, but in my other life when we vacationed often in the keys, I always loved the pelicans. We used to feed the tarpons, I think they were called, big, wide-mouthed fish and the pelicans would swoop in and steal the fish. My kids loved that. One time one parked itself on our boat as we cruised around the mangroves, like it had every right to hitch a ride. So glad you get to see them everyday, right outside your door.

Pelicans are just about my favorite birds. They are prehistoric looking.
