The Things I Carry

I found a lock of my hair wrapped in a 55-year-old piece of stationary the last time I was at my mom's. I save things, too & some of them I carry in my wallet.  I like these odd mementos better than photographs.

I, too, like strange little mementoes. I carry mine in a little leather change purse in my pocketbook -- and pull them out periodically to remember them and the moments they represent.

My kids are both living at home now. They are living mementos of my hopes and dreams transformed by my husband's current girlfriend. There is a pair of baby shoes of the granite countertop waiting for my grand-daughter. Next to those orange and blue sequin covered cuties is a pair of tiny baby boy Fila's for my grandson. They hold some of my hopes my future which sadly I had planned to share with my partner until he dissolved his relationship with our children. What was he thinking. "Love is a demand" and carries responsibility if I understand the teaching correctly.
